Life, however, had other plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At eighteen, when most are dreaming about the future, he was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The word <em>malignant<\/em> echoed louder than anything else in the room.<br>&nbsp;His family stood stunned, their minds frozen in disbelief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He wept \u2014 not out of fear for himself, but at the sight of his loved ones lost and helpless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then something shifted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the shock settled, he looked at them and said, <em>\u201cBe strong.\u201d<br><\/em>&nbsp;In that moment, the boy became a warrior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He prepared \u2014 mentally, emotionally, physically \u2014 for the battle ahead. Surgery. Radiation. Chemotherapy. Endless MRIs. Pain beyond vocabulary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He walked into the warzone and walked out victorious.<br>&nbsp;Battered, yes \u2014 but unbroken.<br>&nbsp;He rose from <em>Victim<\/em> to <em>Victor<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Life did not stop testing him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2019, five seizures struck without warning. One episode left him conscious, yet unaware \u2014 shouting, punching, fighting those trying to protect him. The diagnosis: epilepsy. Strong medications followed, bringing mood swings, irritability, and exhaustion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just as he adjusted to that reality, 2020 delivered another blow \u2014 Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss in both ears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Silence replaced sound.<br><\/strong>&nbsp;An injection in each ear, daily. Medication that caused piercing brain-freeze-like pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over time, his left ear regained some strength. The right did not. Hearing aids became companions \u2014 helpful in quiet spaces, overwhelmed in noisy ones. He learned to inform others gently, to ask instead of assume, to replace embarrassment with awareness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Surely, this was the last lesson?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fall 2021 answered differently.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A hard fall. Head striking the floor. Loss of consciousness.<br>Diagnosis: Dural AV Fistula \u2014 reverse blood flow in the brain. Veins circulating pressure instead of releasing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Catheters navigating delicate pathways. A Dye redirecting blood and a glue to ensure that the blood doesn&#8217;t flow in that space. Medication-induced hallucinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>And a revelation:<br><\/strong>The fistula had been the cause of the seizures all along. Not epilepsy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He asked the question only the resilient dare to ask:<br>&nbsp;<em>What is this trying to teach me? Is the pain worth the gain?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He fought again. Harder. Stronger. Wiser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recovery was slow. Dark days came. But he refused to surrender to them. He chose faith over fear, movement over stagnation, meaning over misery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, he stands healthy. Physically active. Writing poetry. Riding bikes. Raising pets. Practicing mindfulness. Walking a spiritual path. Moving steadily toward his <strong>Ikigai<\/strong> \u2014 his reason for being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Had he not welcomed pain, adversity, and uncertainty as temporary visitors, he would not have become who he is now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not just a survivor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But a man forged by fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An embracer in adversity. A thriver in the dark.
