{"id":1013,"date":"2026-01-10T06:09:52","date_gmt":"2026-01-10T06:09:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/icfchennai.com\/blogs\/?p=1013"},"modified":"2026-01-10T06:09:53","modified_gmt":"2026-01-10T06:09:53","slug":"coaching-introspection-to-implementation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icfchennai.com\/blogs\/coaching-introspection-to-implementation\/","title":{"rendered":"Coaching \u2013 Introspection to Implementation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><u>The Realization<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><br><\/strong>We&nbsp;often&nbsp;focus&nbsp;on our&nbsp;strengths&nbsp;as they&nbsp;lead&nbsp;to&nbsp;quicker&nbsp;and&nbsp;more&nbsp;effective&nbsp;results, but we&nbsp;rarely&nbsp;pay&nbsp;attention&nbsp;to our&nbsp;weaknesses. Even&nbsp;though we may&nbsp;understand&nbsp;this, we&nbsp;often&nbsp;fail&nbsp;to&nbsp;act&nbsp;on it due to a&nbsp;lack&nbsp;of&nbsp;introspection,&nbsp;acceptance, and&nbsp;awareness&nbsp;of the&nbsp;long-term&nbsp;consequences&nbsp;of&nbsp;ignoring&nbsp;these&nbsp;areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At some&nbsp;point&nbsp;in our&nbsp;personal&nbsp;or&nbsp;professional&nbsp;journey, we\u2019ve&nbsp;all&nbsp;experienced&nbsp;a&nbsp;moment&nbsp;where we&nbsp;feel&nbsp;like someone should have&nbsp;told&nbsp;us this&nbsp;earlier, and we could have&nbsp;done&nbsp;better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;issue&nbsp;isn\u2019t about&nbsp;waiting&nbsp;for someone to&nbsp;tell&nbsp;us\u2014it\u2019s about&nbsp;actively&nbsp;listening&nbsp;to those around us and&nbsp;reflecting&nbsp;on what&nbsp;led&nbsp;us to this&nbsp;situation.<br><br><strong>\u201cI&nbsp;believe&nbsp;self-innovation&nbsp;is&nbsp;more&nbsp;about&nbsp;self-introspection.\u201d<\/strong><br><br>The&nbsp;more&nbsp;we&nbsp;examine&nbsp;ourselves and our&nbsp;actions&nbsp;from an&nbsp;outside&nbsp;perspective, the&nbsp;greater&nbsp;the&nbsp;chance&nbsp;we have to&nbsp;understand&nbsp;and&nbsp;transform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This&nbsp;insight&nbsp;became&nbsp;clearer&nbsp;to me during a&nbsp;seminar&nbsp;several&nbsp;years&nbsp;ago.&nbsp;The&nbsp;speaker&nbsp;asked, \u201cHow&nbsp;many&nbsp;of you have&nbsp;ever&nbsp;been&nbsp;bitten&nbsp;by an Elephant?\u201d&nbsp;Everyone in the&nbsp;room&nbsp;laughed.&nbsp;Then&nbsp;he&nbsp;asked, \u201cHow&nbsp;many&nbsp;of you have&nbsp;ever&nbsp;been&nbsp;bitten&nbsp;by an Ant or a Mosquito?\u201d&nbsp;Everyone&nbsp;raised&nbsp;their&nbsp;hands.&nbsp;The&nbsp;message&nbsp;was&nbsp;clear: it\u2019s&nbsp;usually&nbsp;the&nbsp;small&nbsp;things&nbsp;that&nbsp;cause&nbsp;the&nbsp;most&nbsp;problems.&nbsp;The&nbsp;more&nbsp;we&nbsp;overlook&nbsp;these minor issues, the&nbsp;bigger&nbsp;and&nbsp;deeper&nbsp;the&nbsp;gap&nbsp;becomes&nbsp;in&nbsp;solving&nbsp;them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><br><strong><u>How Do We&nbsp;Introspect?<br><\/u><\/strong><br>While we&nbsp;talk&nbsp;about&nbsp;acceptance, the&nbsp;real&nbsp;challenge&nbsp;is&nbsp;finding&nbsp;ways&nbsp;to&nbsp;reach&nbsp;that&nbsp;state.<br>People&nbsp;are not&nbsp;naturally&nbsp;open&nbsp;to&nbsp;suggestions&nbsp;or&nbsp;advice&nbsp;unless they&nbsp;truly&nbsp;value&nbsp;the&nbsp;person&nbsp;giving&nbsp;it.&nbsp;When they\u2019re not in a&nbsp;receptive&nbsp;mindset, it\u2019s&nbsp;hard&nbsp;to&nbsp;help&nbsp;them&nbsp;change&nbsp;or&nbsp;reflect.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From my&nbsp;experience, the&nbsp;best&nbsp;ways&nbsp;to&nbsp;introspect&nbsp;are through&nbsp;reading,&nbsp;journaling, or&nbsp;working&nbsp;with a&nbsp;coach.<br><br>&#8211; Attentive&nbsp;reading&nbsp;helps&nbsp;us&nbsp;gain&nbsp;insight&nbsp;from&nbsp;others\u2019&nbsp;experiences.<br><br>&#8211; Journaling&nbsp;allows&nbsp;us to&nbsp;reflect&nbsp;on our&nbsp;actions&nbsp;and&nbsp;decisions&nbsp;throughout the&nbsp;day.<br><br>&#8211; Coaching&nbsp;involves&nbsp;working&nbsp;with someone&nbsp;invested&nbsp;in our&nbsp;success, who&nbsp;helps&nbsp;us&nbsp;recognize&nbsp;gaps&nbsp;and&nbsp;develop&nbsp;action&nbsp;plans.<br><br><strong><u>Get Coached to Coach<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>As I&nbsp;began&nbsp;my&nbsp;career&nbsp;in&nbsp;coaching, the&nbsp;first&nbsp;thing&nbsp;I&nbsp;realized&nbsp;was that I&nbsp;needed&nbsp;a&nbsp;coach&nbsp;for myself before I could&nbsp;effectively&nbsp;coach&nbsp;others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s&nbsp;crucial&nbsp;to&nbsp;evaluate&nbsp;our&nbsp;own&nbsp;progress&nbsp;and&nbsp;identify&nbsp;blind&nbsp;spots.&nbsp;I&nbsp;think&nbsp;this is why the ICF has&nbsp;created&nbsp;certification&nbsp;levels&nbsp;like ACC, PCC, and MCC\u2014 these&nbsp;levels&nbsp;represent&nbsp;a&nbsp;journey&nbsp;of&nbsp;self-assessment&nbsp;and&nbsp;change, while&nbsp;also&nbsp;offering&nbsp;support&nbsp;to&nbsp;others.<br><br>Keep&nbsp;using&nbsp;the&nbsp;axe, and don\u2019t&nbsp;forget&nbsp;to&nbsp;sharpen&nbsp;it&nbsp;regularly. This&nbsp;translates&nbsp;to&nbsp;maintaining&nbsp;\u201cAwareness to&nbsp;Accountability.\u201d When&nbsp;introspection&nbsp;is&nbsp;followed&nbsp;by&nbsp;intentional&nbsp;action,&nbsp;clarity&nbsp;turns&nbsp;into&nbsp;confidence, and&nbsp;potential&nbsp;becomes&nbsp;performance.<br><br>My&nbsp;transition&nbsp;from&nbsp;corporate&nbsp;management&nbsp;to&nbsp;professional&nbsp;consulting,&nbsp;training,&nbsp;mentoring, and&nbsp;now&nbsp;coaching&nbsp;has&nbsp;helped&nbsp;me&nbsp;realize&nbsp;that while my&nbsp;focus&nbsp;is on&nbsp;ensuring&nbsp;others&nbsp;get&nbsp;value&nbsp;from my&nbsp;services, it\u2019s&nbsp;equally&nbsp;important&nbsp;for me to&nbsp;continue&nbsp;receiving&nbsp;coaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This\u00a0ongoing\u00a0evaluation\u00a0ensures\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0constantly\u00a0improving\u00a0and\u00a0providing\u00a0better\u00a0and\u00a0more\u00a0meaningful \u00a0value\u00a0to my\u00a0clients\u00a0now\u00a0and in the\u00a0future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Realization We&nbsp;often&nbsp;focus&nbsp;on our&nbsp;strengths&nbsp;as they&nbsp;lead&nbsp;to&nbsp;quicker&nbsp;and&nbsp;more&nbsp;effective&nbsp;results, but we&nbsp;rarely&nbsp;pay&nbsp;attention&nbsp;to our&nbsp;weaknesses.
